Purpose: The Director of Mission Advancement is an integral member of the UWNC Leadership Team. The Director of Mission Advancement will develop a mission-aligned revenue and capacity-building strategy for UWNC, inclusive of all areas of work. This position will work with the President and CEO to build and implement a policy agenda at the state level that supports UWNC’s efforts to achieve equitable outcomes for North Carolinians. The right candidate can work in a fast-paced environment and absorb and process much information quickly and will have proven experience in fundraising, and public policy, with a particular focus on collaboration. Essential Functions:
Strategic Resource Development and Relationship Cultivation
Create and execute strategy for a sustained base of mission-aligned capacity and resource-generating partnerships which help United Way to increase impact in cooperation with local network partners.
Research and prepare grant/contract proposals in coordination with leadership team.
Develop strategies to maximize member benefits and educate members on available opportunities, inclusive of member services, NC 211 and other statewide programs offered by UWNC.
Identify new opportunities while building effective relationships with network leaders, regional/state associations, state funders, state policy leaders, and other stakeholders and partners to further engagement and increase support for the United Way mission.
Work with strategic partners, including foundations, non-profits, local partners such as county managers, local law enforcement, and State agencies such as DHHS and Emergency Management to grow and enhance visibility for NC 211 as the portal for information and referral in North Carolina.
Advocacy/Public Policy/Government Relations
Direct local, state, and federal government relation activities to support UWNC’s vision, mission, and annual business plans based on emerging social trends, community concerns, and political issues.
Manage the board-level Public Policy Committee and analyze the risks and benefits of individual public policy positions.
Prepare and implement measurable annual work plans to achieve public policy advocacy and systems change objectives. Direct the establishment, measurement, and evaluation of public policy outcomes.
Lead UWNC Network and NC 211 in identifying and implementing strategies, initiatives, and public policy programs that could contribute to achieving UWNC’s agenda.
Membership Engagement
Build and manage strong relationships with local United Way CEOs, corporate leaders, and other essential stakeholders.
Provide leadership to United Way organizations/staff in North Carolina to improve leadership skills, performance, fundraising success, and achieve community impact.
Provide oversight/direction to ensure policies and procedures regarding network members and partners are documented and followed.
Conduct yearly organizational health survey to inform member service work plan.
Lead Mission Advancement team members in planning, staffing, and execution of the UWNC Annual Meeting, Spirit of NC Awards, Summer Conversations, Board Training, advocacy events, and other meetings.
Support Southeast Regional Bi-Annual Conference (SERC) along with other state associations.
Manage the board-level Return on Investment Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BA in Social Sciences or related field required; Master's preferred. 10+ years’ experience in a Social Service organization; United Way experience preferred.
Experience developing and driving strategic planning, program development, and execution, as well as relationship management required.
Solid relationship management skills enhancing internal organizational relations, external community interactions, and business development opportunities.
Proven experience in developing proposals and presentations for the funding of programs required.
Experience writing and managing grants for foundations and government contracts.

Valid NC Driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
